Before you buy, check you have a free USB port (USB 2.0 or newer) for the receiver, which comes in the box. An alkaline AA is included, and Logitech says lithium AAs work too. The warranty is a two-year limited hardware warranty.
How long does the AA battery last?
Logitech quotes up to 250 hours in its Performance mode and up to 9 months in its Endurance mode, and adds that real life varies with how you use it and the battery you put in. That's the trade-off: no cable and no charging, but keep a spare AA in the drawer.
The battery is a real chunk of the weight. With it, the G305 weighs 99 g; without it, 75 g. Lithium AAs weigh less than alkaline ones, so swapping one in makes it a little lighter. Want to skip batteries altogether? That's what a rechargeable mouse is for.
How good is the sensor?
The HERO sensor tracks from 200 to 12,000 DPI, adjustable in software or on the mouse itself, and reports to your computer 1000 times a second (1 ms) through the receiver. DPI sets how far the cursor travels for each inch the mouse moves. Logitech says HERO adds no smoothing, filtering or acceleration anywhere in that range, and rates it to track movement up to 400 IPS (inches per second) and 40 G of acceleration.
All six buttons can be remapped in Logitech G HUB, which is optional, and one profile can be saved on the mouse itself, so your setup goes with it to another computer.
What do reviewers say?
Speed gets praise. One review called its click latency great; another reported input lag under a millisecond.
Fit is the catch. One review found it small enough to push you into a claw grip, and not a good match for medium-to-large hands.
